About
Benedetto Magnano San Lio was born in Padua in 1966. In 2009 he decided to follow an instinctive calling that led him to express, through color, the deepest inspirations of his soul. From the very beginning, a profound sense of color emerged, expressed in simple yet highly creative forms. The discovery of this vocation led him to devote himself to painting with increasing intensity.
He regularly studied with the renowned Romanian painter Nelu Pascu, who gradually guided him in the discovery of color and in mastering the palette-knife painting technique.
Exhibitions and collaborations
In 2010 he held his first exhibition in Padua; since 2013 he has exhibited every year at the Arte Padova fair. In 2023 he was awarded 4th place at the 11th C.A.T. Prize competition with the work “La Porta” (“The Door”).
In 2015 he successfully presented his works at Art Innsbruck and subsequently took part, together with 20 other Italian artists, in the prestigious group exhibition “The Rhythm of Art” at the 3Space2 Gallery in London. In July 2015 he exhibited his works in the group show “Le stagioni dell’arte 2” in Bologna, presented by art critic Giorgio Grasso. In 2016 he participated in several other events, including “Arte sotto i Portici” in Bologna and the Affordable Art Fair in Milan. In 2017 and 2018 he took part in various art fairs in Padua, Milan, Genoa, Forlì, Vicenza, and Parma. His works were exhibited in New York at ArteExpo from April 19 to 22, 2018, and in Miami at Red Dot in December 2018; in 2019 his canvases were also shown in Paris, Luxembourg, and Geneva. His works are currently on display in a solo exhibition at Galeria Gaudì in Madrid. Since September 2021 he has been collaborating with Galerie Mickael Marciano Paris at Place des Vosges. From May 12, 2022, his works have been exhibited in a solo show at Galerie Mickael Marciano Paris.
The artist also exhibits his works at other Italian galleries, such as Roka Art Gallery in Padua, La Piccola Galleria Venezia, Galleria Fidanda in Livorno, Swann Art Gallery in Turin, and Galleria 89cento in Laveno on Lake Maggiore..
His pictorial art
The subjects of his paintings largely belong to the natural world; flora and fauna are depicted in simple, clear forms: birch forests, portraits of a solitary conifer immersed in its own canopy, flocks of colorful fish, and water-lily ponds.
Benedetto Magnano San Lio combines a masterful use of color and the palette knife with a blend of different techniques and, above all, a personal element: his art arises from a genuine imagination, born in his mind and transferred onto the canvas.
The painting of Benedetto Magnano San Lio is rooted in a philosophical concept that is fundamental to him: to translate the beauty of everything that surrounds us into emotion, the mind must empty itself of all content. Only a mind free from material and psychological attachments, as well as religious and political ones, can create the state of mind necessary to perceive the power and true beauty of life. Freeing oneself from these attachments is the most difficult and ambitious goal that each of us should set for ourselves in the course of life.
There are schools and academies that can teach how to paint with technical perfection, but painting is the simple art of capturing an emotion.
Benedetto Magnano San Lio è nato a Padova nel 1966. Nel 2009 decide di assecondare un richiamo istintivo che lo porta ad esprimere nel mondo del colore le suggestioni più profonde del suo animo. Da subito emerge un profondo senso del colore che manifesta in forme semplici ma molto creative. La scoperta di questa vocazione lo porta a buttarsi nella pittura sempre più intensamente.
Frequenta assiduamente un famoso pittore romeno, Nelu Pascu, che lo accompagna gradualmente alla scoperta del colore e della tecnica della pittura a spatola.
Esposizioni e collaborazioni
Nel 2010 fa la sua prima mostra a Padova; dal 2013 espone ogni anno alla fiera di Arte Padova. Nel 2023 ha ottenuto il 4° posto al concorso 11° Premio C.A.T. con l’opera “La Porta”.
Nel 2015 propone con successo le sue opere a Art Innsbruck e successivamente partecipa assieme ad altri 20 artisti italiani alla prestigiosa collettiva “The rhythm of art” presso la 3Space2 Gallery di Londra. A luglio 2015 espone le sue opere alla collettiva “Le stagioni dell’arte 2” a Bologna. La mostra è presentata dal critico d’arte Giorgio Grasso. Nel 2016 ha partecipato a diversi altri eventi tra i quali “Arte sotto i Portici” a Bologna e “Affordable Art Fair” a Milano. Nel 2017 e 2018 ha partecipato a varie fiere a Padova, Milano, Genova, Forlì, Vicenza, Parma. Ha esposto alcune opere a New York in occasione di ArteExpo, dal 19 al 22 aprile 2018 e a Miami in occasione di Red Dot in dicembre 2018; nel 2019 le sue tele sono state esposte anche a Parigi, Lussemburgo e Ginevra. Attualmente le sue opere sono esposte in una mostra personale allestita presso la Galeria Gaudì di Madrid. Da settembre 2021 ha iniziato a collaborare con la Galerie Mickael Marciano Paris presso Places des Vosges. Dal 12 maggio 2022 le sue opere saranno esposte in una mostra personale allestita presso la Galerie Mickael Marciano Paris.
L’artista espone le sue opere anche presso altre gallerie italiane come Roka Art Gallery di Padova, La Piccola Galleria Venezia, Galleria Fidanda di Livorno, Swann Art Gallery di Torino e Galleria 89cento di Laveno sul Lago Maggiore.
La sua arte pittorica
I soggetti dei suoi dipinti appartengono in prevalenza alla sfera naturale; flora e fauna hanno fogge semplici e chiare: boschi di betulle, ritratti di una conifera solitaria sommersa dalla sua chioma, branchi di peschi variopinti e stagni di ninfee.
Benedetto Magnano San Lio aggiunge un sapiente uso del colore e della spatola, una miscela di tecniche differenti e soprattutto un elemento personale: la sua arte proviene da un’immaginazione genuina, originata nel suo pensiero e riportata sulla tela.
La pittura di Benedetto Magnano San Lio parte da un concetto filosofico per lui fondamentale: per tradurre in emozioni la bellezza di tutto ciò che ci circonda, la mente deve svuotarsi di qualsiasi contenuto. Solo una mente libera da attaccamenti materiali e psicologici, religiosi e politici può predisporre lo stato d’animo a percepire la forza e la vera bellezza della vita. Liberarsi da questi attaccamenti è il traguardo più difficile ed ambizioso che ognuno di noi dovrebbe porsi nel corso della vita.
Esistono scuole ed accademie che possono insegnare a dipingere in maniera tecnicamente perfetta ma dipingere è l’arte semplice di fotografare un’emozione.
